Putting the pen back to paper..

Warm apologies for my absence, as the lovely creative people you are I am sure you are aware how it is.. Auditions, Performing then Travelling then back to the desk job to help pay that credit card bill, just so you can use it again to book that workshop you overheard about on the way out of changing room at your last audition. Followed by more emails and spreading your self thin with rehearsal after rehearsal and no paid work in sight, yet we constantly choose to fill our diaries for the next 30 days with unpaid work and profit share with {lets be real guys} a very big hope that the job is coming Soon.. Deep down really we know we love what we are doing, and there is no better feeling than that email you have been waiting for to arrive or the Arts Council to finally reply saying your application has been successful, even hearing an artist saying yes I will work for free.  More recently I have become more aware of the smaller things in life but even more so in my artistic life and even more recently the richness of "gestures " have been priceless and in some respect have brought me back to put pen to paper and reflect on my creative juices and share them.

Since i have last shared on my blog i have been beyond lucky and was invited to attend a TEDx talk that was hosted by the Observer at Kings Place London March 19th. Jude Law, Vivienne Westwood and Denise Lewis were just a few of the guest to share some inspiring stories, however  Martine Wright left one of the biggest impacts on me from that event. Martine"who boarded a London Underground train on 7 July 2005. Introduced by athlete Denise Lewis, she told how Shehzad Tanweer, who detonated a bomb in his rucksack at Aldgate station, was in her carriage. She lost both legs but has since won a pilot's licence, married, had a son and is training to represent Britain in volleyball at the London Paralympics: "I didn't die that day. I had a choice and decided to walk again."
Wright said the hardest thing was dealing with the memory of how she once did things. Sport gave her confidence again: "It has also given me a new dream to work towards 2012."
Martine Wright will be playing in the Paralympics 2012! after sharing such a sad yet inspiring story i was left touched and i will surely be tuning in to give her a watch.
